PARENT INFORMATION

CLC Network offers online courses to students who learn in unique ways and who benefit from alternate instructional methods. In some cases, that means increasing the pace and/or the complexity of a course. In other cases, it means that students need more time to complete a course. For still others, alternate methods means approaching content from a variety of perspectives or directions.

We offer courses to two groups of students:

1) Middle school-aged students who have unique academic talents and who have limited opportunity to work at a level that challenges their ability. We offer the following courses for these students:

- 6th Grade Honors English
- 7th Grade Honors English
- 8th Grade Honors English
- Pre-Algebra
- Algebra
- Geometry

2) High school-aged students who struggle with the acquisition of traditional foreign language skills. Foreign languages, or world languages, have become part of core curricular expectations for students who will graduate from high school. Many students struggle with the acquisition of language find that learning a world language is particularly difficult. Our online course is designed to provide an opportunity for success to these students. Our teachers will use multimedia instructional tools to enhance traditional methods, making a world language accessible. Opportunity for practice in listening and speaking the language will be a significant component of our course design.

WHICH PARENTS WILL LIKELY BE INTERESTED IN OUR COURSES FOR THEIR STUDENTS?

Our courses are available for students whose school is unable to offer a course, or courses, at a level appropriate for a particular student (e.g. Geometry for 8th grade students; Spanish I for high school). Our online courses are asynchronous, which means students do not need to be online at the same time to take the course, allowing students to work on the course when they are able. Our courses replace a course from a student’s curriculum and our students usually work on the courses when they would normally be scheduled for that class during the school day (e.g. during math class period).

We ask that you work with your school administrator as you consider enrolling your student in one or more of our classes. You might begin with a conversation with your school’s coordinator of services to students with academic talents.

A CLC Network Parent is the parent of a student who is enrolled in a CLC Network School (see the About Us section to see if your school is part of the CLC Network).

CLC Network parents who wish to enroll their son or daughter in a CLC Network online course must do so through their CLC Network school. Please talk with your school administrator.

Home Educating Parents

CLC Network online courses are collaborative tools for parents who home educate and who feel uncertain about teaching particular subject matter, and for busy parents who are not always available to instruct and to answer questions. Since complete instruction is provided online, you can be assured that your student’s individual needs are addressed. With the curriculum available 24/7, you have the flexibility of determining an appropriate pace and schedule of studying for your child.

Parents who wish to enroll their son or daughter in a CLC Network online course must do so using the online registration process.

"What I like about the online math is that you just work on it during math time or spare time, without the 5 hour explanations. It goes way faster, and you don't skip anything like you would in regular math. It is fun, too, because you can be alone while working on it. I also like group projects where you have to contact each other through chat rooms. They also are fun because you get to know the people in your class you don't know. ONLINE MATH ROCKS!"
